Introduction and Background

The tables in the two subpages provide a cross reference between Grayson County road numbers and the newer E-911 road names. This information is provided to help Grayson researchers find locations described by road numbers when using newer maps that have road names.

This list was derived from the Grayson County map generated by the Grayson and Carroll Twin County E-911 Regional Commission. The information was generated locally and contains fewer errors than any commercially available map. While its accuracy is high, it may still contain errors. Please send corrections and additions to Paul Anderson or Ginger Ballard we will update these tables and forward the information to the commission.

Notes:
1) Galax city roads are not included.
2) Many E911 named roads span several Route Numbers, while some Route Numbers can contain more than one E911 named road.
3) These tables are believed to be the most accurate available but may have errors and omissions. Many commercially available Grayson maps (both paper and electronic) showing road names have errors. To be sure of the name of a road and the associated route number is to go to the road and check. But even there you may find conflicting information.
4) Forest service roads do not appear to be included.

Sometime in the late 1980’s and early 1990′ Grayson County began to add road names to state maintained roads and many private roads in the county. At this time most roads are marked with both a name and a number. However, older maps only have the road numbers and new maps primarily use the road names. If you are trying to find a specific location it is often desirable to have one of each.

The first table lists the State Routes and US Highways in numberical order and identifies road names associated with them. The second table is an alphabetical list of road names and with the road numbers associated with each one.

These tables are very long. Your browser’s search function may help in finding a specific road. A “type ahead” capability for the search can be especially useful.
